Sudbury Writers' Guild Meeting - January 26th, 2012 |

The January meeting of the Sudbury Writers' Guild will take place on Thursday January 26th at YMCA in Kinsmen Rm B.
Doors open at 6pm for mixing and networking. Meeting starts promptly at 6:30pm
Guests welcome to come and check out our meeting. If you are a guest, please take a moment to let someone know you are new so we can properly introduce ourselves.
At January's meeting we are having a very special guest speaker - Matthew Heiti who is currently the Playwright in Residence at the Sudbury Theatre Centre. Matthew holds an MA from the University of New Brunswick. His writing has appeared in Grain, Rampike, filling Station, and Free Fall. He is currently completing work on his first collection of fiction, Another Hard Winter. He was recently nominated for a Genie Award for his work on the script for Son of the Sunshine, which showed at Cinefest in 2009 and was released theatrically in 2011 |

Living with Our Lakes Poetry Contest |

Submissions of up to six poems are welcomed to the “Living With Our Lakes Poetry Contest.” Poems should be on the importance in our lives of the over 300 Greater Sudbury lakes: their beauty; their place in the larger ecological picture of the intertwined lives of people, animals, fish, birds and plants; and our challenge to safeguard their water quality.
The winning poem will be framed and put on display at the Vale Living with Lakes Centre and on its website. A selection of the best poems will be published in an anthology by Scrivener Press.
Poems should be typed and double-spaced, with the author’s name, address and phone number on each numbered page.
The contest will be judged by Sudbury’s first Poet Laureate, Roger Nash.
Deadline for submissions is February 29 2012.

Sulphur II - Deadline Extension |
DEADLINE EXTENDED:
Submissions are now being received until February 22nd, 2012.
The English Arts Society and Lambda Publications are now accepting submissions for Issue 2 of Sulphur, Laurentian University’s new literary journal, established 2010-2011.
Submission Guidelines
• Open to Laurentian students, alumni, faculty, and community
• Accepting poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, dramatic monologue, and more
• Word limit: up to 2500 words
• Maximum of 5 pieces per submission (of any form)
• Works are to be submitted electronically,in .doc, .docx,. rtf or .txt format attachments
• Please include your name and email or phone number with your submission
