Nine-year-old Bayley D’Amour couldn’t think of anyone she’d rather spend more time with than her grandmother. Gokomis with her twinkling eyes and long white hair was her best friend. The only other friends she had were Gokomis’ two horses, Aankwat and Odeh.

When school started, everything changed and Bayley was left without her best friend, with two missing horses, and decisions to make as she stood under a spirit tree. Where did the horses go? How could she bring them home? Who could help her? What would she wish for if she could choose to be almost anything?

This is my first full novel. It is really important to me to write books about my children, for my children. They are both French Canadian and Ojibwe. I wanted to have characters and themes that will inspire curiosity about their Ojibwe culture, that makes them proud of who they are. It want my books to be a gateway to their culture with language and a healthy dose of fantasy and fun.

Each book that I write in the Spirit Tree is based on one of the Seven Grandfather Teachings. Strawberries and Sweetgrass is about love and my next book, Blueberries and Paw Prints (Coming in 2013,) will be about Bayley’s little brother Davis and covers the theme of respect.

I will be holding promotions and contests for Strawberries and Sweetgrass all summer long. Look for them and all my latest updates on Facebook and Twitter.
